People were catching lots of trout when we were there in March 2020. We saw several bald eagles, numerous red-winged blackbirds, and fowl. We spent five days without any hitches in our electric only site. There was a water spigot for incidental water within 100 ft. The only somewhat negative perspective we have is the noise from I-25 which is about half mile (as the crow flies) to the east. The noise is considerably lessened when the wind is blowing from the west to the east. Written 18 March 2020 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. CLEAN NICE SITES... BUT Oct 2019 I would have given this location a 5-star rating had there not been so much road noise from I-25. The sites are very clean and well-kept, camp hosts exceptional and the views and amenities great. The noise though from the highway is a detractor. Loud Sep 2019 The state park is fairly popular, based on number of people visiting/camping -- though nearly all seem to be fishing.
Very Unique State Park! Aug 2020 There are two sections to this park. The lower numbers (1-41) have water and electric and 42-87 have full hookups. We stayed in #11. We usually opt for full hookups, but would not do so here. Our section (Pelican Loop), had a walking trail surrounded by a pond with cat tails and numerous beautiful pelicans in all of their glory and in the middle was a small island. It reminded me of Disney World's landscaping. Many mature shade trees lined the paved shaded roads. We had a level cement pad and a covered table. The newer sites with full hookups had ponds but no mature trees and gravel roads complete with dust. When occupants left site, the park staff were right there to spray and disinfect the area. They even swept the gravel to adhere to Covid precautions. Very impressive! The only con (and not that bad), was the park being very close to I-25. It was great for convenience and directions. A bit noisy, but once inside the camper, you didn't even notice! I would highly recommend and would love to return.

The poster shows a tournament for older adults the Saturday before. I don't know if it was held or not, due to the flood. I'm guessing not. It looks like it was a good deal… no cost to enter, and they even supply the racquet if you need it. Can't beat that. North of Pike/Lefthand Creek, west of Bowen, south of Nelson Rd. / Ken Pratt Blvd (this is where the two meet), east of Sunset. Total for today: 22, 90 0 steps and 4:25 time. FLOOD DAMAGE This area was affected by the flooding, but mainly on the very south end of today's area. The walkway by Lefthand Creek showed a lot of damage, but a block away I might not have even noticed anything had happened. I was surprised at how quickly life was getting back to normal. I did notice a lot of heavy equipment being transported westward on Nelson Road as I walked there around 7:30 am, which I assume was headed toward some flood recovery destination. I walked across Pike Road and took a few pictures from the Lefthand Park area, which I walked as a neighborhood on August 2. One of the two giant ants that I took a picture of then was uprooted by the flood and deposited on the opposite end of the park… see photo below.
